2021 Knights Valley Petite Sirah

$40.00

This Petite straddles the line between power and finesse. Easily mistaken for a Syrah on the nose, it has notes of blueberry, violets, leather, and iodine, with intense color and impact. With excellent structure and a chewy, tannic finish, this wine is best decanted and enjoyed over time, to allow the complex aromatics to evolve.

Vineyard
Mountain Home Vineyard, source of this Petite Sirah, is located in the Mayacamas foothills at the north end of Napa Valley. Planted in 2001, the vineyard is located at an elevation of 900 feet and has a diversity of soil throughout, with loam, clay, and friable rock all present. The hillside planting is entirely clone 3, producing concentrated fruit and balance.

Winemaking
After a hand harvest, we destemmed and crushed the fruit into tank, where it underwent a two-week fermentation with twice daily aerative pumpovers. The wine was pressed in a traditional vertical basket press, and aged in neutral oak. We racked the wine two to three times a year during elevage and bottled after 21 months in barrel.

Winemaker’s Notes
The 2021 Petite Sirah straddles the line between power and finesse. Easily mistaken for a Syrah on the nose, it has notes of blueberry, violets, leather, and iodine, with intense color and impact. With excellent structure and a chewy, tannic finish, this wine is best served with any type of roasted meat and will surely last a long time in the cellar.  We recommend decanting and enjoying the complex aromatics as they evolve over time.
