Vineyard
Located a mere ½-mile from the winery, the aptly-named Berry Lane vineyard is a Coombsville gem. Planted in 1988, the eleven-acre vineyard is organically farmed, with a mix of Chardonnay and Merlot. Coombsville’s gravelly, alluvial, and volcanic soil, combined with the cool climate, result in wines with great acid and complex aromatics.
Winemaking
Our Cadman Chardonnay is our stainless-only version of the wine, and as such, it never touches oak. After a hand-harvest we whole-cluster pressed the Chardonnay in a traditional basket press, which allows for gentle extraction of juice. After pressing, the juice settled in tank for 24 hours and then underwent a cool, three-week fermentation. The wine was aged in stainless steel on fine lees and was bottled in the summer following harvest.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2021 Cadman Chardonnay has pineapple, citrus, and fennel on the nose; a soft mouthfeel, and a zippy finish. Refreshing yet complex, the wine is great with all manner of seafood.
